If relocation to Central Indiana is in your future, you owe it to yourself to consider buying a home in Carmel. Annually ranked by various publications among the “Best Places to Live” in America, Carmel truly is a jewel of the Midwest.

Now, right off the bat, you should know that you’re probably going to pay a little more to live in Carmel. The median list price per square foot in Carmel is $124, which is higher than the Indianapolis Metro average of $96. But in Carmel’s case, you really do get what you pay for.

On average, home buyers will get a lot more bang for their buck in Carmel. That includes more square footage, more neighborhood amenities like pools, and bigger lots. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to advantage of living in Carmel.

Great Schools

The Carmel-Clay schools are simply the best. Carmel-Clay once again topped the Indy Metro rankings for best schools. The district has 15 schools, including 11 elementary schools, 3 middle schools and Carmel High School. Despite being a large district, CHS boasts low teacher/student ratios, experienced faculty, and annually produces the state’s best test scores. CHS also boasts state-of-the-art technology programs, award-winning arts programs, and an athletic department that’s won an astounding 149 state championships since 1970!

A Bustling Community

As far as community resources, Carmel is second to none. Carmel’s shopping options include numerous craft and boutique shops located in the historic Arts District as well as the Clay-Terrace, a spacious outdoor mall. The dining scene in Carmel is filled with tremendous casual local fare like Bub’s Burgers and Kona Grill as well as more upscale options. If you like the great outdoors, the Monon Trail bisects Carmel and connects downtown Indianapolis with the northern suburbs. You’ll find scenic views as well as shops and restaurants you can frequent all along the trail.

A Tradition of Arts Excellence

Carmel is also a hub of Central Indiana Arts. The Arts and Design district in downtown Carmel contains numerous craft and artist’s shops. All along the sidewalks of downtown Carmel you’ll see lifelike sculptures depicting scenes of Americana. Carmel is also home to the Palladium, a world-class performing arts center that brings in world-renowned musical acts, theater productions and other entertainers and artists.

Thriving Business Center

Business is also booming in Carmel. Indiana 31 is the major north-south thoroughfare that runs through downtown Indianapolis through Carmel and all the way to South Bend. Dotting US 31 are major corporate and regional headquarters and offices. The accessibility and amenities of Carmel make it a destination for successful businesses.

Roundabouts

Of course, no discussion of Carmel would be complete without mentioning the roundabouts. Carmel was a leader in developing this traffic management system and now has 125 roundabouts within its city limits, more than any other municipality in the country. Carmel’s roundabouts increase traffic safety, benefit the environment, improve local aesthetics and make it easier for pedestrians and bicyclists to navigate.
